Will I be completely disconnected from the Grid?

Battery storage technology enables you to leave the electricity Grid if you wish to. However, it is your choice whether you want to leave the Grid completely or not and you can discuss your options with one of our team when determining what system size and design suits you best.  

 

Will there be enough energy to run my air-conditioning and all my appliances?

Yes, we ensure the system is designed to cater for your individual needs. The PV Solar provides your daytime requirements and the battery size determines how much power will be available to use during the rest of the day and night.

 

What if my circumstances change and I need more energy? 

The battery systems are scale-able. Like a Lego set, we can add additional PV solar panels and batteries to meet changing needs.

Batteries can be added in increments of 3.6 kWh and solar has few limits.

 

What will happen if the battery runs out; will we have no power? 

Only if you have left the Grid altogether.

If you are still connected to the Grid, it will automatically supplement your power needs whenever necessary and you will never run out of electricity.

If you have chosen to disconnect from the Grid there may be times when you need to run a generator to top up the battery, for example in persistent poor weather.  There are several different options that we can discuss with you to ensure you are never left without power, depending on your circumstances.

 

Is there a risk of fire?

The Lithium ion batteries that we use are the same technology as those in your smart phone or laptop, only bigger. Lithium ion batteries are much safer, more heat tolerant and easier to manage than traditional batteries used for this application and have been used successfully in electric vehicles for several years

Our batteries come from the world’s best manufacturers, with built in mechanisms for preventing such an event as fire. However, in some very isolated cases rechargeable batteries have been known to overheat and experience a thermal runaway or fire, which has usually been linked to mishandling or manufacturing defects.

Our well-trained installation teams are well aware of maintaining high standards of safety and product handling.

 

Where does the battery get installed?

Battery packs are not waterproof and as they have an electric vehicle charger built in, a garage is our preferred location. If you have a preference for another location, please discuss this with our team when determining what system size and design suits you best.

 

What are the battery warranties?

   

Samsung ESS Battery

The Samsung warranty is 10 years or 6000 cycles.

If a full cycle occurs each day [charge/discharge of the battery] this would equate to about 16.43 years.

In a 10.8 kWh Samsung ESS battery system, there are 6 x 1.8kwh batteries. Replacing one battery in the system, should it fail, is a small job and it doesn’t mean the whole system goes down.

Details on the Tesla warranty or cycle life are still to be advised.

 

Can I see how much energy I have at any moment in time?

Yes, the Samsung ESS has a display that shows how much energy you have left in the battery as well as many other cool features.
